How Judo compares to other martial arts

Judo is a combative sport that uses throws, holds, choking and locking techniques to defeat an opponent. These techniques are applied in a manner that uses your opponent's strength and movement against them. Injurious and deadly techniques, such as kick and blows are not allowed in competition but may be learned by experienced judoka through the study of the judo katas under the guidance of a senior instructor.

Judo

Throws, grappling, and leverage over strength; emphasizes balance and falling safely.

Brazilian Juijitsu (BJJ)

Ground fighting and submissions; focuses on controlling opponents on the mat.

Karate

Linear strikes, kicks, and kata forms; prioritizes precision and power.

Taekwondo

Dynamic kicks and aerial techniques; emphasizes speed and agility.

Why We Believe Judo Is The Best Martial Art To Study

While other martial arts excel in specific areas, Judo’s holistic approach—combining standing and ground techniques with mental fortitude—creates a versatile foundation for all ages and body types, fostering resilience on and off the mat.
